Is Vinyl Plank Flooring Worth Your Money? (Pros & Cons)
What does LVT/LVP mean in flooring?
LVP is shorthand for Luxury Vinyl Plank. LVP covers all vinyl designed in planks, giving the look of wood floors with all the features and benefits of vinyl. You may occasionally hear people use the term “LVT,” which stands for Luxury Vinyl Tile. LVT encompasses all vinyl products designed to mimic tile or stone. Generally speaking, however, LVP is the more common and more frequently used acronym.

Why is vinyl flooring so popular?
Vinyl is the most popular form of resilient flooring (a category that also includes linoleum and cork) because it’s low-maintenance, water-resistant, cost-effective, and long-lasting. It also has the perfect balance of firmness and “give,” meaning it springs a bit when you walk on it for a comfortable feel underfoot. And thanks to recent technological advances, today’s vinyl comes in a wide range of high-quality, beautiful finishes.

But vinyl flooring does have its downsides. So whether you’re considering installing vinyl or wondering what it takes to remove an existing vinyl floor, read on.
Pros
100% Moisture Resistant
Commercial Grade Wear Layer
WPC, SPC and Rigid Core Constructions
Antistatic
Can be used on cement, granite, tile, laminate and other flat subfloors
DIY Installation – click lock, glue down or loose lay
Variety of decor options – wood, stone, cement, etc.
Low maintenance & easy to clean
Options for any budget
Cons
Difficult to remove if glued down
Can be punctured with very sharp objects
Some vinyls can dent with heavy objects on top of them
Can show fading and discoloration with excessive UV exposure
Conclusion
The advantage and disadvantages of vinyl flooring vary significantly depending on the type and quality of the product you choose.
The well-known advantages of vinyl flooring are many. It’s comfortable and quiet underfoot, resistant to damage and moisture, easy to install and maintain, affordable, and available in a large number of colors and designs. This makes vinyl flooring a popular choice with a range of consumers, particularly the design and budget-conscious DIY consumer.

On the downside, vinyl flooring can be difficult to remove if it’s glued down, it can dent with heavy objects on top of it, and it can be punctured with very sharp objects. Another disadvantage of vinyl flooring is its inability to support very high temperatures and a tendency to show fading and discoloration with excessive UV exposure. For these reasons, vinyl is generally not recommended in rooms with exposure to too much direct sunlight, such as verandas.

However, new technologies mean that vinyl flooring continues to evolve in both its design and construction, with some products now able to counter the disadvantages mentioned above.
